UU Theater presents OOTB's "Chosen"

Out of the Box Theater Company's "Chosen: Adoption Stories," by Linda Britt, chronicles the joys and the heartbreaks of the adoption process.

“Chosen” will be performed the weekends of January 21/22 and 28/29 in our own church vestry (Sat., Jan. 21/28 at 7:30 p.m., Sun., Jan. 22/29 at 2 p.m.). Tickets are $10 and may be reserved through L/A Arts at 782-7228, or laarts.org.

"Whose lives do we intend to change, and in what way?"

This Saturday, Nov. 20, the annual Gingerbread Fair will take place at First Universalist Church of Auburn. Presiding over the baked goods table are (LtoR) Arel Doyle, Ell Fanus and Christine Babb. Find well-known favorites like gift baskets, high-quality crafts, homemade pies, silent auction, books, CDs, jewelry, raffle, white elephant plus the new UU Cookbook, a must-have featuring a wide variety of healthy and exotic selections. Auburn UU will again offer its popular lunch with music by Phil House. First Universalist is located at 169 Pleasant Street (enter on Spring St, across from Dairy Joy); fair runs 8:30am-2pm. The Board of Directors requests your attendance at the special Fall Congregational Meeting of the members of the First Universalist Church on **Sunday, November 14, 2010** immediately following the worship service.

The agenda for that meeting contains the following items:

• Vote on the Budget (At our Spring Meeting, we did not have a balanced budget, so the congregation moved to hold this special Fall meeting to return to the budget.)
• Update from Social Justice Committee on status of micro-loan fund
• Presentation of the Rose Window Award

The meeting should be brief, so please plan to attend if you are able. It’s important that we have enough members present to make a quorum.

As always, members and friends are invited and welcome to attend all meetings; however, only members are permitted to vote.

Remembering Hurricane Katrina

To mark the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans, UU Theater is mounting this multi-media show that looks at a national tragedy from all angles. Call 783-0461 to reserve tickets ($5 all).
The cast features Glen Atkins, Lorelei Greenwood and Eileen Messina, and an ensemble cast including: Cynthia Alexandre, Sabine Bartlett, Iliana Corey, Jourdan Fanning, John Henderson, Karen Lane, Nina Lindley, Mary Osborne, James Reese, Raj Sharma, Ron Spofford and Madeline Strange. The show is co-directed by Toby Haber and Karen Lane for UU Theater.

Water Communion Ingathering- Sept. 12

We will celebrate our Ingathering/Water Communion on Sunday, September 12th. Please bring a small vial of water to represent your travels- whether geographic, spiritual, or both, to the service.
Every year, we gather this water to remind ourselves of the strength and power of community. We then purify it and use it throughout the year for such rituals as child dedications.

Take a kid to Aesop's Fables Redux!

UU Theater will present “Aesop's Fables Redux,” a family-friendly production by Susan Pennington, on Saturday, July 31, at 7pm, and Sunday, Aug. 1, at 2pm.

The show features talented performers of all ages: Autumn and Savannah Ballard, Sierra Ballard, Adia Coulombe, Arel Doyle, Jay Fiori, Emma Galipeau Eldridge, Ella Fields, Molly Gallagher, Noah Gill, Karen Hendrickson, Attigan and Birch Knight, Karen Lane, Mary-Atala Lessard, Delaney Morneau, Jephthah Peters, Lillith Price-Wharff, Alicia Proulx, Madison Rush, Nicole Rush, Sawyer Templeton, Alex Whorley and Sabrina Yocono.

Auburn UU Awarded

The First Universalist Church of Auburn has received multiple honors from the Northern New England District (NNED) of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Three awards were presented on May 1, at the NNED Spring Conference in North Conway, N.H.

Gerry Fox received an "Unsung Hero" award for his service to the church community. Toby Haber received a Congregational Leadership Award. NNED notably bestowed the congregation with the Anne Kempers Award for Social Justice for the compelling stage productions offered by UU Theater, which has presented "The Vagina Monologues," "Hidden: A Gender," and other plays with social themes.
